Video Game Development 101 Lesson 2 (part 1) – Motivation

Last week we looked at part 1. In this lesson we learn that the purpose of a game is to motivate. We look at some of the ways in which a desired behavior can be motivated and some ethical repercussions that occur when motivation becomes manipulation. We’ll look at how some game companies and games journalism sites have crossed those lines.

We revise our definitions of game and gamification and define game theory. Finally, we’re going to define what a game developer is.

I’ll mention now that this lesson is divided into two parts to allow you to watch some motivational videos as homework in-between. If you’re watching using the playlist, those videos will cue automatically.
